Cl4r4 for hire
Clara (aka Cl4r4) is a modern-day cybersecurity specialist who sometimes offers their services for more shady purposes, given a proper reward is provided or if they fancy it.
This is a tiny game, with only 3 levels.
In every level, you will have to solve certain puzzles, use the help provided to get clues. Every time you make a mistake, your stress level might go up (see the related icon in the top application bar), if it's too much, you'll start to notice; if it goes on 100% you might get a heart attack, so be careful.
In the last level, you can also risk it and try to get more money out of it, but beware of your stress level
If the music or the CRT visual effect is not to your liking, you can disable them in the options menu.
There is an option to disable/enable Sound Effects; sadly, there are none, so this won't do anything.
BUGS
After accepting a mission, the mission objectives window opens, if you close this window and re-open it later, the content disappears, and it says that there is no active mission. Unfortunately, there is no way to recover this other than restarting the game (Open the pause menu with Esc and select restart or quit and reload)
How to
The game is centered around the use of a linux-like shell terminal, if you are not familiar with this, then the game could be a bit disorienting.
Once the game starts, you get a mission detailed in the chat window on the right side of the screen. You can accept or decline the mission. If you decline then the game ends.
If you accept, you should see a pop-up with the game objectives. This alone should give you some idea of what to do in the terminal.
Open the terminal application, type in "help" (without the quotes) on the prompt, press enter, and you will get a list of commands available (this changes based on the mission, while some are always available)
If you try any of the commands listed, you could get an error with an explanation of what the command expect as parameters. This needs to be provided after the command, as explained in the usage help.
Each mission will require the use of one or more commands, and each command might open up a mini puzzle game.
Finishing each mission
- Orion Corp Project X
- Use SSH with the IP provided and a random password. This gives you a hint
- Use the tail command with the IP provided and the file name provided in the hint from SSH
- This opens a Simon-Says-like puzzle, where you can use the log printed to figure out the password
- Keep using SSH with a random set of digits (password is only digits), and check in the log window for a hint
- Once you have the password right, use the wget command to download the requested file from the provided IP and folder location
- White Collar
- Follow the same steps as the previous mission to crack the password
- Use the ssh_ls command to find out where the file requested is stored
- Use the IP provided and the password you cracked earlier
- Try to use any random dir name, or nothing
- You should notice a pattern in the list of files and directories provided
- Keep using the command with the directories found to find the file
- If you are not familiar with the ls or dir commands, you provide the directory names separated by a forward slash. I.e. /dir1/dir2 etc.
- Once you know the location of the file, use the wget command again to download the file
- Golden Fleece
- Follow the same steps as the previous mission to crack the password
- Use the hack_vault command with the provided IP, account number and cracked password to open a connect-the-wire puzzle game
- Click with the left mouse on each tile to rotate it (right click rotates counterclockwise) until you get the right connections, symbolised by illuminated tiles
- A pattern has to connect a wire in a continuous line from the left-most tile to the right-most.
- Use the ssh_fund_mv command to transfer money from the source account to the provided commissioner account.
- You can also transfer funds to your own account; unfortunately, I forgot to add a way to know the details of your own account. If you want to do i,t here are the details:
- IP: 2001:0db8:85a3
- Account: 01100011-01101111
- Follow the same steps as the previous mission to crack the password
Disclaimer
This is a work of fiction; all names, situations, IP addresses, and so forth are fictional and not real. The methods shown in the game to solve the puzzles are not a real-world scenario and do not represent real hacking mechanics.
There are bugs; be patient. I might expand the game further or fix bugs in the near future if there is any real demand for this work to continue.
